Mining

Savage’s roots began in mining more than 75 years ago with just one truck delivering coal. Today, our fleet of trucks transports tens of millions of tons of coal, metals, cement, limestone, and other mined materials to power plants, terminals, and industrial facilities across the United States. We even remove waste coal from abandoned mines and turn it into a viable fuel source for generating energy.

Railroads

Savage works with all North American Class I railroads and many short line railroads as a single-source rail services provider. We move over 40 million tons of materials annually operating first- and last-mile services at over 100 rail terminals and yards and 30 switching locations utilizing proprietary railcar tracking technology.

Food & Agriculture

Savage transfers sugar, flour, beans, corn sweeteners, and other food-grade products at more than 40 transload terminals and in 2018 welcomed diverse agribusiness Bartlett to the Savage family of companies.

We operate the largest sulphur marine system in the United States, including one of the world’s largest liquid-sulphur vessels, the Sulphur Enterprise. We also operate the Abundance and Harvest articulated tug and barge (ATB), one of WorkBoat’s 10 Significant Boats of 2017, transporting raw materials used in the production of phosphate fertilizers and crop nutrients for The Mosaic Company.
